Our story...
(A love-at-first-sight story)
Most people are surprised to hear that we only spent
17 days together before we got engaged back in 1997, but it’s true.
We fell head-over-heels in love and never wanted to be apart,
so we gathered up our family and friends and got married on the riverboat ‘Creole Queen’ in New Orleans just three months later. We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary this year and the romance is still a whirl. We try to live our lives with a positive outlook no matter what life throws at us. When one of us is down, the other lifts everything up. When one of us is trying to achieve something in our career or personal pursuits, the other is supportive and encouraging. We make it a point to be responsible grown-ups with our home, careers and finances, but we also try to never let go of the curiosity and fun of childhood through playful creativity and discovery of new things and new adventures. We laugh a lot — and Dave has a laugh you can hear from 2 rooms away. (That may be why he’s a kid-magnet.)
Adopting a child will be like beginning a new chapter in our love story. We believe in being open and honest about feelings and issues, and in bringing out the best in each other. We have so much love to give to a child who would become another little light in our family, surrounded in warmth and encouragement.
A little bit about Dave...
∞ Dave was born in Texas, but grew up in New Orleans where his family is based and he has lived in Japan, Oregon, Manhattan, and now lives with Meg outside of New York City. (They also own a home in the mountains of upstate New York.)
∞ Dave graduated with honors from a Catholic college in New Orleans where he studied film and TV production. His professors sparked his interest in world religions and spirituality which inspired many journeys around the world in his late teens and 20s.
∞ After college Dave moved to Japan to study the culture, working as an English teacher for four years where he taught Japanese children as well as teens and business professionals.
∞ Today, Dave is an accomplished filmmaker and screenwriter for feature films. He teaches screenwriting with a company based in New York and Los Angeles and his films have been shown in over 60 film festivals.
∞ Dave works out of his home-office and as a writer he has a flexible work schedule since he’s his own boss. He feels fortunate that he’ll be able to be home with our child every day.
∞ Dave’s interests include: movies, photography, music, football (Go Saints!), hiking, golf, snowboarding, biking, anything cool and hi-tech, travel, outdoor adventures like whitewater rafting, surfing, snorkeling, and barbecuing.
A little bit about Meg...
∞ Meg grew up in northern New Jersey and has lived in Manhattan, Oregon, and now outside of New York City with David, of course. (And she loves being at their country place in upstate New York.)
∞ Meg has a college degree in fine art from a university in New York City where she studied painting, drawing, design and communication.
∞ Meg worked her way through college as live-in sitter for a family with 2 children, a boy and a girl. This was where she first learned about child care -- the importance of play, patience, empathy, and being attentive to each child’s unique physical and emotional needs.
∞ Today, Meg manages a group of dynamic creative people at an advertising agency. Many of the people on her team are parents, so she makes a point to help them balance work and family life, believing that family is more important than anything else in the day. Meg has more than a month of vacation time every year and her company even gives everyone extra summer days off to spend with family.
∞ Meg loves being outdoors gardening, hiking, cross country skiing, and playing sports with Dave. Her favorite moments can range from travel adventures like going on safari in Africa to quieter time spent watching movies and reading books by a cozy fire upstate.
∞ Meg is wild about animals of every kind and supports wildlife organizations like the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, Humane Society, and the National Wildlife Fund.
∞ She can't wait to be a special little someone's Mom!
